2011 FISHING REPORT

WINTER STEELHEAD!

Date: January 12, 2012
Current Report: Winter Steelhead

Conditions right now are very low and clear on all of the rivers, with some being closed because of low flow closures.  After the rain and high water the Smith and Chetco rivers dropped into shape and fishing was good to great!  With no rain though it didn't take long for them to drop out.  It sounds like more rain next week, with it fishing should pick back up again.

Current Report: Winter Steelhead

We are finally getting the wet weather we have been waiting for! Right now the Smith and Chetco are blown out while the lower rivers have not really gone on the rise yet. It won't take long for the Smith and Chetco to come into shape and with no major rain through the beginning of next week we should see great conditions for fishing.

Current Report: Trinity River

Fishing on the Trinity River has been very good for me this last month.  River conditions have been ideal and very nice weather.(a little warm for me some days but I'm not complaining)  New fish are coming in every day and even though they are travelling fast there are lots of biters.  It will be interesting to see what we have in store for October.  With rain on the way it is going to change the fishing on the river.  It just depends on how much we get.  I'm heading to the upper Klamath then back to the Trinity.

Current Report: Klamath River

It's that time of the year again for fishing the Klamath and Trinity Rivers!  I've been on the Klamath River a few days this last month and it has been good fishing for this time of the year.  Had a group come up for a fly fishing trip for steelhead the last couple of days. This was out of a jet boat on the lower river.  It just seemed a little early to use the drift boat up where I normally fish. The first day we decided to fish for salmon first thing in the morning and then go fly fishing later. The fishing turned out to be too good to leave so we didn't do any fly fishing until later in the afternoon.  Fly fishing wasn't that good, it does not seem like there are a lot of steelhead around.  So the next day the waders and fly rods stayed at the motel and we had another great day of fishing.  We didn't catch any big ones but made up for it in numbers.

There is going to be a big increase in flows on the Trinity River for the next few days which should pull fish up into the areas that I fish.  Hopefully the fishing keeps rolling along like it has been.

Current Report: Northcoast Rivers

Sorry for the lack of reports, tried something different and decided to switch back to this style. I've been fishing on the Eel River and it has been good. On Saturday night it rained pretty good but the river still fished good. Today the main stem is muddy, the south fork is still fishable though.

Current Report: Smith River

Went to the Smith River today. We had a good day of catching fish and enjoying the weather. Hardly any boats on the river so we were fishing by ourselves most of the day!
